Bill Murray and Brothers Receive Inspired Bronze Signature Sculpture
The Western Golf Association and Evan Scholars Foundation honored Bill Murray and his five brothers, inducting them into the “Caddie Hall of Fame” and giving them “the Caddie Award,” a signature custom bronze sculpture by Inspired Bronze.
The award ceremony came during the last week of the 2015 BMW Championship at the Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. Conway Farms is just a 30-minute drive north of where the Murray family grew up in Wilmette, Illinois.
Proceeds from the BMW Championship went toward the Evan Scholars Program, which awards college tuition and board to caddies with outstanding academics and character. 910 caddies were attending college in 2015 thanks to the Evans Scholarship.
Since 1999 the Caddie Hall of Fame has celebrated the caddy’s role in golf, and its importance. The Western Golf Association has maintained the Hall of Fame since 2011. Other members include golf-greats Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, and Chick Evans.
“It’s an ability to look at a player when he hits a bad shot and go ‘ehhhh... it happens,’ Bill Murray said of being a caddy. “And when he hits a good shot, you go, ‘well, that’s really who you are.’”
Bill Murray became possibly the most recognizable caddy in the world after playing Carl Spackler in 1980’s Caddyshack. Bill and his five brothers (Andy, Brian, John, Joel, Ed) grew up very close to the game of golf. The brothers’ experiences on the course as adolescent caddies served as the inspiration for Caddyshack, when the eldest brother Brian penned the script.
Here at Inspired Bronze we are excited to have played a role in such an amazing and charitable event and be able to provide the custom trophy that was used. We hope those Murray boys loved the sculpture!
