The PAPA World Pinball Championships
The Professional and Amateur Pinball Association (PAPA) is an organization supporting the game of pinball as a recreational and competitive sport. PAPA is currently owned and operated by Kevin Martin and is based in Scott Township, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh.
The main activity of the organization is hosting the annual World Pinball Championships and Pinburgh Match-Play Championship. Each event brings hundreds of serious pinball players from around the world to compete for a number of large cash prizes. The World Pinball Championships run for four days and allows competitors to register in different divisions, which accommodates beginners and skilled players alike.
The PAPA World Pinball Championships trophy was created by digitally scanning the Martian figure housed within the ‘Attack from Mars’ pinball game. The PAPA logo and Martian figure were then digitally sculpted so the final model depicts the Martian holding the PAPA logo. The digital sculpture was then rapid prototyped, molded, cast in bronze and mounted on an art deco-styled base, custom-designed for the sculpture.
“The ‘Martian Trophy’ was a a lot of fun to create. We enjoy all of the work we do, but we really get excited about concepts that leap ‘out-of-the-box’. The PAPA Martian stands out as one of the most interesting and unique designs we have ever produced, and we really feel that it came together exactly as it had been conceived. All of us at Inspired Bronze are very proud of the fact that PAPA will be awarding their top competitor this distinctive ‘Martian Trophy’” says Inspired Bronze head artist.
"After dealing with multiple different companies and artists over the years, I needed a one-stop solution that would give me a high quality creative product on time. The Martian Trophy will be awarded annually to the PAPA World Pinball Champion, and is going to be an iconic part of our organization and industry for years to come; we have the hard working people at Inspired Bronze to thank for that." says Mark Steinman, Director of Operations at Professional & Amateur Pinball Association.
